Iscon Mega Mall, Bodakdev, Ahmedabad

Located on the SG Highway (Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway), Bodakdev, right beside the ISKCON Temple, Iscon Mega Mall was once Gujarat’s premier mall. Launched in the mid-2000s, it spans approximately 88 exclusive brands across 150 stores, anchored by a massive Reliance Mart (1.8 lakh sq ft), and includes major retail names like Westside, Nike, Skechers, Adidas, and more.

As of now, however, most of the upper retail levels are largely vacant. While the mall is still open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, its occupancy has dramatically declined over the past decade.

Pros & Cons – Visitor & Community Feedback Insight

✅ Pros

  • Legacy retail anchor & nostalgic appeal: Early 2010s visitors forecast the mall as Ahmedabad’s flagship, housing vibrant brand outlets and a buzzy food court.
  • Generous amenities: Travelators from parking, large atriums, ample parking and leisure zones like bungee and kids’ rides offered a full-day outing experience.
  • Large Reliance Mart grocery anchor: Even amid retail decline, the hypermarket continues operating and drawing visitors into the building.
  • Occasional events & children’s attractions: Kids’ train rides, novelty circus-style features, and seasonal attractions gave some experiential layering to the mall.

❌ Cons

  • Now largely a ‘ghost mall’: Multiple reviews describe Iscon as mostly vacant—80% of shops closed, limited activity beyond the grocery anchor.
  • Poor maintenance & dull ambience: Some visitors highlight dusty corridors, non-functioning escalators, and lack of HVAC in upper levels.
  • Unorganized security & staff lapses: Reports cite lax vehicle checks, rude staff behavior, and confusion during billing at the food court or grocery counter.
  • Overshadowed by newer malls: With launch of Nexus (Alpha One) and Palladium, Iscon has lost footfall and relevance—Reddit users note it as one among several failed mid-size malls in Ahmedabad.

In summary, Iscon Mega Mall, once Ahmedabad’s shining shopping playground, now retains luster only in memory. It serves primarily as a Reliance Mart grocery destination with residual nostalgia, and ticketing dusty memories of past vibrancy. For branded retail, entertainment or upscale dining, newer malls like Alpha One or Palladium are more viable. Ideal for a quick grocery stop or casual throwback photo—and best visited during weekday midday visits to avoid sparse, dusty ambience.
